“There is no night without the dawn. No winter without the spring.”

Mary sadly passed away in the care of Leighton Hospital on 12th August aged 94 years.

She was the beloved wife of late husband Robert, much loved mum of Julie, cherished nanna of Collette, Daniel and Melissa and dearest sister of Bernard. Mary was a light hearted, generous, caring person who enjoyed story telling. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Born in Bradford, a district of Manchester on 2nd January 1925, to loving parents Thomas and Sarah.
She went to St Brigid’s Girls School and from a very young age she loved reading and swimming.

After leaving school Mary went to Loreburn College to learn shorthand and typing. In her teens she loved to go dancing at the Ritz in Manchester with her school friend Joyce. She also enjoyed visiting the cinema, her favourite film stars were Vivien Leigh, Robert Donat and Charles Boyer.

She finished college and went to work as a shorthand typist for the Ministry of Fuel and Power where through her friend and colleague Dorothy she met Robert her late husband. Following the birth of her daughter Julie she temporarily stopped working, returning to work again once Julie started school. Over the years the family enjoyed many holidays including on the Norfolk Broads, Cornwall and touring the south coast.

In her 50’s Mary and her late husband moved to a small bungalow in Kinmel Bay, North Wales, a place near where her and brother Bernard and her parents had enjoyed many holidays as a young family.
Following the death of her father Thomas and the birth of grandson Daniel, Mary and Robert who were now caring for her mum Sarah, purchased a house in Crewe next door to her now married daughter Julie, son in law Brian and grandchildren. She remained in Crewe for the next 35 years.

Mary loved dogs and owned several over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and dogs, walking, waltzing, playing the piano, reading, writing; she won a short story competition in her 60’s, watching tennis, films with Colin Firth, Strictly Come Dancing, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, The Chase and Countdown.

Her funeral will take place on Wednesday 11th September in St. Stephen’s RC Church, Droylsden, at 11am, followed by interment in Droylsden Cemetery. The postcode for St. Stephen’s is M43 7NA.
